Where We Live

Many Ursuline students live on campus in our three residence halls: Grace & Murphy (first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior students), and Smith Hall, our new suite-style hall that opened January 2006 for juniors and seniors and and houses 72 students. Living together, you make special friendship connections, but you also grow as an individual. Residence hall activities abound -- some programs are educational, others physical, spiritual, or purely social! Living on campus can be a lot of fun, and it's an opportunity to learn skills that make you truly independent.

All the features you'd expect
Residence hall rooms today are not the sparse boxes your parents might have told you about! Each bedroom is equipped for computer and Internet access. The buildings themselves have common lounge areas and convenient laundry facilities (including change machines). Grace also provides a kitchen area, game room, and large formal parlor for campus events. Each floor in Grace and Murphy shares a common bathroom for women, and Grace has a community bathroom for male students.

Smith Hall houses a total of 18 suites (six on each floor). Each suite has four private bedrooms, a bathroom, and a common living space with a galley kitchen (full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, cupboards, but no stove). The living room and kitchen area is furnished with a sofa, chair, coffee table, and a kitchen table with four chairs. Each bedroom comes with a dresser, bed (can be adjusted for storage underneath bed), desk, chair, and movable file. All suites have phone, cable, and computer hookups provided in the common living space, with cable and computer drop also available in each bedroom. Cable in the private bedroom must be paid for by the individual student.

Exceptional Value
Room and board rates for 2008-09 are as follows:

Double room with 15 meals: $7,352/year

All residents are required to participate in the meal plan, and there are several options to choose from at the beginning of the semester. You may contact the Director of Food Service if special dietary needs are a concern.
    Residential students must:

  1. Be registered for the current semester as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) at Ursuline College
  2. Be under no disciplinary sanction which specifically prohibits living in the residence halls
  3. Be in good financial standing with the College
  4. Have paid a $200 deposit (payable to the Business Office) to reserve a space
  5. Have signed a Residence Hall Contract before moving into the residence halls
Exceptions to the above requirements may be made by the Director of Residence Life. Ursuline College does not provide married student housing nor housing for underage children.

Strong support system
Living in the residence hall at Ursuline College is a living-learning experience. To guide you along the way, a Resident Assistant lives within the hall to act as peer counselor, assist residents' development, and ensure overall safety. Each RA is responsible for either a full or half floor within a residence hall. She plans programs, identifies student needs, and serves as a link to the College Office of Residence Life. RAs are selected through an interview process each spring. If you are interested in becoming an RA, please speak with your RA or with the Director of the Residence Life for further information.
