The Traveling Nurse

Andrea Cirino, class of 2000, Nursing

Getting involved at Ursuline truly enhanced Andrea's academic experience. Her time as president of the Student Nurse Association brought out her leadership skills as she encouraged others to participate in charity drives and membership recruitment. Through the evolvement of these skills, as well as her all-important clinical courses, Andrea began to feel like a "real" nurse even before she graduated.

She enjoyed her practicum at Cleveland's University Hospital so much that she began a career there. After a year, she moved to Atlanta to work in a cardiac intensive care unit, and then to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Now, like many young nurses, she is serving as a traveling RN, working wherever she's most needed. She's learned that she prefers a variety of challenges and that her skills are valuable wherever she goes.

"Work is such a big part of your life, that if you find your niche, you can be the most successful person. That includes enhancing your skills and -- for me -- gaining the confidence to move [to other cities] by myself."
